Inform and diagnose a rare disease
Product: My Stiley Diary App
Responsibilities: Empathy maps, IA, User flow, UX, UI and Visual Design
Overview
Fabry disease is a rare disorder caused by a defective gene in the body. The symptoms including body pain, which can be hard to identified and diagnosis often required a long period of time. Fabry patients often do not respond to usual pain relief medication. Instead, they will receive long term infusions treatment in conjunction with continually monitoring of symptoms to ensure positive response with the treatment. The customer needed a solution to assist healthcare professionals to track and diagnose Fabry disease.
My Role
I took care of every design aspects of this project. Due to limited information of the disease and no access to patients, I started by researching on the disease and case studies, empathise with the patients so I can understand the life with Fabry disease. The symptoms can occur from young age and it can hugely impact on school and social life of a teenager. I prioritise the patient's need to allow quick and simple interactions like setting up reminders, logging pain, infusions and provide actionable data and reports for doctors. I quickly build prototypes and conducted a few rounds of user testings with my team as well as our customer's team.
The Result
By capturing the pain areas, pain level and other details of the symptoms, patients can provide timely and meaningful data to their doctors so that they can ensure effectiveness of the treatment by comparing historical data, and help diagnose or adjust medications for their Fabry patients.
